Alpacas: Eco-friendly all around
Alpacas are considered some of the greenest animals on the planet. An alpaca can produce fleece throughout its entire life. Alpacas are shorn—without harm—every twelve to eighteen months using ancient technologies that preserve tradition and respect the environment.
Alpacas are allowed to roam free and graze at altitudes from 4,000 to 4,800 meters (13,000 to 15,700 feet) during the day, before being herded back to shelter at night. Although alpacas have a substantial natural lifestyle, they are still watched closely by the farmers and have access to regular veterinary care. Furthermore, the production of alpaca fiber promotes sustainable farming in the Andes and helps the economy of local communities.
Alpaca Fiber
Alpaca wool is rated among the finest fibers in the world. Its thickness ranges from <18 to 22 microns. Due to its soft and luxurious texture, alpaca fiber is often compared to cashmere, though alpaca fiber has superior qualities. Despite being much lighter than sheep wool, alpaca fiber is warmer. Not only does alpaca fiber comes in various natural colors and shades, it is also naturally hypoallergenic as it does not contain lanolin. Moreover, it is incredibly soft to the touch and does not cause itching or skin irritations.
Luxurious Qualities
Alpaca garments are of exceptional quality. This is due to a number of properties that you won’t find in other wools:
- It is lighter—yet warmer—than any other type of wool.
- It does not cause allergies, because, unlike sheep wool, alpaca fiber does not contain lanolin.
- It effortlessly absorbs moisture and repels water; hence rain does not affect its appearance, shape, or quality.
- It has superior insulation qualities, as it maintains body temperature regardless of external conditions.
- It has superior breathability. It retains heat, but at the same time it allows fresh air to circulate.
- It is stain and odor resistant.
- It has a beautiful, natural silky sheen.
- It is flame resistant.
- It is substantially durable.
- It is highly resistant to all types of fungi and microorganisms.

And most importantly — It is fashionable and you will look great in it!
